Quite a pleasant and unexpected delight from this Brooklyn-based duo, who released a rather disturbing noise disc just last year. Nightwatch features Warren Holt on guitars, bass, keyboards, tapes, vocals & production and Andrew Hurst on guitars, bass, drums, tape & vocals. They've moved into new territory, blending psych and early prog sounds with more experimental techniques. On "Loved One Honey" a great fuzz guitar solo emerges from some swirling tapes of backwards vocals. The 13 pieces here are part of a seven-section suite. Haunting, ghost-like vocals float within cauldron of twisted tape bits, sped up, slowed down, adding an unnerving vibe. "Floating Down Tomorrow" sounds quite like a long-lost gem from an unreleased Syd Barrett session. All of the pieces here are pretty short and all sound well connected to each other. "Eye to Eye" is charming and odd with background vocals that sound much like Robert Wyatt. What I think is so great about this disc is that these cats probably had a very limited budget, yet came up with lots of interesting ideas, making this a most fascinating little gem. In the future, those crazy obscure psych collectors will be searching for little treasures like this, so why wait until it is too late, grab that ring while the merry-go-round is still spinning!?!  - Bruce Gallanter (4/8/2005)
