Nightwatch is a local duo with Warren Holt on guitar, loops & keyboards and Andrew Hurst on tape, amp, percussion & synth. Fascinating and disturbing duo with focused layers of distortion, rhythmic noise samples, ominous industrial loops and drones, dense feedback bursts and well placed, yet extreme sonic punctuation. There is some sort of primitive aesthetic involved here, as if modern society has been broken down and all we are left with is the ruins of our technology. Everything is falling apart and nothing remains solid or dependable. Is this the way it really is? I am reminded of Chrome or Factrix or Smersh (remember them?) or even This Heat, but without the beat. Is that blurred image on the cover someone playing something or am I just imagining it?!? Who really knows? Perhaps Nightwatch will play here at DMG and our neighbors will flip out. Hmmmmmm. Like I said, fascinating and disturbing simultaneously. -Bruce Gallanter (8/15/2003)
