Nightwatch was formed in NYC in 2002 by Warren Holt and Andrew Hurst experimenting with collisions between digital and analog manipulations, noise and beauty, improvisations and set structures. They produced their self-titled first album consisting of cuts from live sessions in 2003. Nightwatch followed their debut album with a soundtrack for John Cage's Rock's Role (2003), soundtrack contributions for Nick Zed's Electra Elf and Fluffer (2003), and then a live music+video album recorded at a performance at Downtown Music Gallery in NYC (2004). Nightwatch has performed concerts at Issue Project Room, Northsix, Cakeshop, Goodbye Blue Monday, as well as an improvisation with Brian Dewan, Briggan Krauss, and projectionist Raha Raissnia at Thomas Erben Gallery (2004). Scenes (2005) combined field recordings, tape manipulation, and relentless studio experimentation with song structures to render seven cinematic vignettes strolling through a surrealistic garden.
With their third album, Looks, Nightwatch ventures into vintage cinematic soundscapes, tropicalia, narrative sound collage, krautrock stomps, and psychedelic balladry to create their most complex work to date.
